Detroit Metropolitan Dance, formerly known as Eisenhower Dance Detroit, makes its first appearance at Michigan Tech’s Rozsa Center on Sep. 12. Both Detroit-based and local dancers will perform SHIFT, a repertory program of original contemporary dance.

Detroit Metropolitan Dance will perform at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. as the first Rozsa Presenting Series event of the season. This program will be approximately 90 minutes, and features works by choreographers such as Stephanie Pizzo and Yoshito Sakuraba, along with a piece choreographed by Emily Moreira, which will be performed by local Keweenaw community dancers.

Justin Plichta, marketing manager for the Rozsa Center, said that this performance builds on the relationship with the company and the local dance community. “For the last four years [Detroit Metropolitan Dance]  have run a summer intensive dance course, hosted at the Rozsa called U.P.rootEDD, where local youths spend a week being instructed by dancers from the company,” Plichta said. “This will be Detroit Metropolitan Dance’s first performance at the Rozsa.” Some participants from this year’s U.P.rootEDD intensive, including local youths, will perform alongside the company’s professional dancers.

Tickets for the Rozsa performances use a pay-as-you’re-able model, with an overall fee of $34. Michigan Tech students can reserve student rush tickets through the Rozsa’s ticketing system. Seating begins at 2:30 p.m. for the 3 p.m. performance and 7 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. performance.
