Charlie Kirk, political activist and founder of TPUSA, killed in Utah

On Sep. 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist, was killed at 31 years of age in a targeted shooting at Utah College. The shooting occurred during an event where Charlie Kirk was speaking to and debating members of the audience. 

Debate was a staple of Charlie Kirk’s political career– he advocated for civil discussion about political disagreements; often debating members of his audience, promoting discourse regardless of political affiliation. 

He was the founder of Turning Point USA, a student organization aiming to advocate for conservative politics in high schools & colleges across the country, including a chapter at Michigan Tech. With over 850 chapters nationwide, the tragedy came as a shock to many.

He is survived by his wife and two children. His widow continues to advocate for his cause, stating in a public address, “My husband’s voice will remain.”
