Michigan Tech students can now register for fall intramural leagues, with over a dozen sports offered, ranging from basketball and ice hockey to dodgeball and broomball. Sign-ups are open to all students, and leagues are already starting to play this semester. Prospective players can view and register for events at mtu.dserec.com/online/intramurals. Students can also sign up on Banweb to receive one credit for the fall semester.

The program is designed for flexibility, with short seasons and sign-up deadlines spread throughout the year to fit into busy academic schedules. “It’s a good stress reliever and it’s a good social activity to meet new friends. We also have opportunities for work if they’re interested in officiating; it’s a great part time job,” says Craig Pellizzaro, Director of Intramurals and Physical Education. Organizers emphasize that intramurals are meant to be competitive but still fun.

Many students see the leagues as more than just physical activity. Intramurals provide an outlet to relieve stress, meet new people, and build friendships across campus. When asked what students enjoy most, Pellizzaro said, “I think they enjoy the camaraderie.” Students can form their own teams or join individually, allowing friends, classmates, or entire student organizations to participate together.

Broomball, one of MTU’s most popular traditions, remains a major draw during the winter. Ice hockey also attracts strong participation, giving students a chance to play a sport closely tied to Michigan Tech’s identity without the pressure of varsity competition. Other sports offered year-round include volleyball, soccer, flag football, and table tennis; additionally, Pellizzaro said they “always are looking for new activities and improvement”.

With options for both seasoned athletes and newcomers, the intramural program continues to grow in popularity. For students looking to stay active or try something new, the leagues offer competition and community all in one.
