Midyear Commencement Needs You

The time to celebrate graduating Huskies for all their hard work and accomplishments is fast approaching. On Dec. 16, the fall 2023 Midyear Commencement ceremony will be held in the SDC Varsity Gym at 10:30 a.m. The commencement team needs volunteers to help the event go as smoothly as possible. With about 50 volunteer positions to fill, the deadline to sign up is Dec. 6. They can use as many volunteers as possible. Everyone is welcome to sign up and help their classmates have an enjoyable time in a stress-free environment.

Director of the Waino Wahtera Center for Student Success, Anna McClatchy said, “Midyear commencement is a physical reminder of all the hard work that students, faculty, staff, administration, friends, family, etc… put in to support our shared goal of student success. We usually get several volunteers for commencement. It takes about 50 additional volunteers to pull off the set up, rehearsal, ceremony, and clean up of this event. These volunteers help hang signs, set up chairs, put out programs, help students line up, answer questions day of, assist people to accessible seating, and plenty of other things. Typically, we ask for the volunteers to pick 1-2, 2-3-hour shifts of their choice. Many hands make quick work!” A little help goes a long way; being there for each other is a small step in ensuring that all Huskies get a smooth experience at their commencement ceremony.

Without behind-the-scenes work, the previous ceremonies would not have been as successful as they were. The commencement team urges Huskies to consider helping as much as possible. If interested in volunteering for the midyear commencement, contact Anna McClatchy at ajmcclat@mtu.edu.
