Bored During Homecoming Week?

Homecoming begins this week, and there is no shortage of events to attend. Homecoming is known for its larger events, such as the cardboard boat race and the football game. However, there are also plenty of smaller events throughout the week that many may not be aware of. While participation in many of these events is limited to registered teams, spectators are welcome at most of them, and even encouraged for some events.

Tuesday at 6 p.m., the MUB Ballroom will host the MUB Board Pinewood Derby, and on Thursday, the IFC Volleyball Tournament will be held at 6 p.m. at 1210 College Ave. Both events will be contested between the various Homecoming teams. If you aren’t one of the competitors, then come support your hall, fraternity, or student organization.

On Friday, Fans in the Stands will take place at 7 p.m. in the SDC varsity gym. Everyone is invited to support their favorite Homecoming team. Teams will be awarded points based on the number and team spirit of their fans, so come prepared to “make some noise”. This event will take place concurrently with the Michigan Tech vs Lake Superior State University volleyball game, so stick around to cheer on the Huskies as they aim to score another win at home.

The final team competition of homecoming week is on Saturday morning. A cornhole tournament will be held in Lot 24 beginning at 10 a.m. The event is primarily for homecoming teams to compete in, but all are welcome to cheer on their team while they battle to win the tournament.

Finally, before the homecoming football game on Saturday is the homecoming tailgate at 11 a.m., in Lot 24. Anyone with a ticket to the game is invited to enjoy some free food, and to support our football team before they take on Davenport University at 1 p.m. in the homecoming game itself.

According to Homecoming Week’s organizers, Homecoming Week will be “a great way to express your competitive spirit.” For more information on any of these events, visit the MTU website and navigate to the student leadership page, or visit the link below.
