USG seeks first-year and residential representatives

Nominations for the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) are now open for the fall semester of 2026. USG is offering three first-year representative positions, two residential representative positions, and one third-year representative position. Undergraduate students can nominate themselves or another student until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 13.

Conner Skalitzky, the treasurer of USG, explained that students can become involved by running in the campus-wide election. Students can nominate themselves or another eligible student, and once nominations close, they can choose to advertise their campaigns. According to Skalitzky, an email containing voting information will be sent to the undergraduate student body when nominations are over and elections open.

USG representatives are expected to attend weekly general body meetings on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., participate in the standing committee, and complete three office hours each week. Skalitzky explained that the commitment can be as involved as the representatives choose. The students will get out of USG what they put into it.

One reason students would want to run for USG is the opportunity to have a direct role in university decision-making. “Every student gets a voice, but not every student gets a vote,” Skalitzky said. Representatives have the opportunity to bring student concerns and issues to the floor while also voting on the topic.

Skalitzky also discussed his hopes for the incoming representatives and what he hopes they will accomplish in their time in USG. After strengthening USG’s internal systems during the previous year, he hopes the organization will turn its attention outward by becoming more active and involved across campus and hearing directly from students. He encouraged representatives to focus their individual attention on the needs of the broader student body rather than solely on the organization itself.

Students interested in running must have a cumulative and previous semester GPA of at least 2.25 and be in good standing with conduct. Mandatory election information sessions will take place during the week of Sep. 14. Elections will open at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sep. 21, and close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 27. New representatives will be sworn in at the USG general body meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 30.
