Hello Huskies,
We at The Lode would like to wish a warm welcome to our new readers arriving at Tech for the first time, and a warm welcome back to all returning students. For those of you picking up a copy of the paper for the first time, we are The Lode, the newspaper serving the Michigan Tech community, written for students by students. We publish in print and online every Tuesday, and whether you’re reading for the first time or the fiftieth, we hope you enjoy all of the news we have to report on this semester!
Although we have been around since the 1920s, the modern era of The Lode roughly began in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which nearly drove the newspaper out of print entirely. Since then, we have painstakingly rebuilt our news reporting operations from the ground up, with a great deal of help from the Writing Center and the Department of Humanities. Now, we’re putting in more effort to open our doors and welcome voices from all corners of the student community. If you have talent or a curiosity for writing, editing, photography, art, accounting, or even just good people skills, The Lode is a great environment to practice those skills and have a great time while doing it! We meet in the Writing Center at 6 p.m. on Mondays.
Whether you are a reader or an aspiring journalist, we are very thankful for your support and to have you in our community. We look forward to continuing to deliver timely and relevant news about Michigan Tech for everyone!
