The Michigan Tech Football team announced their 2026 schedule on Mar. 11 with a total of 11 regular-season games, consisting of six home, five away, and including four out-of-conference. The Huskies kicked off the season away on Aug. 27, where they faced off against the Bemidji State Beavers, winning 31-29. Head Coach Dan Mettlach said during the summer football camp, “[We’re] making sure we’re getting to a point where we get in those big games where we’re able to execute in crucial times.” He adds that “We’ve got guys at every level that have big-time minutes at our league and got their experience and feet wet last year that are all back. So, we feel good as a whole unit back there right now.”
The next game will be the season home opener on Sep. 5, where Tech is hosting Midwestern State University for the first time at Kearly Stadium. The team will travel to Emporia, Kansas, to play Emporia State on Sep. 12 for the Huskies’ first matchup with the Hornets in program history. Huskies play at home against the Upper Iowa Peacocks Sep. 19, take an off week on week four, then play an away game week five against Roosevelt on Oct 3. Weeks six and seven will be at home for a two-game stint, facing Grand Valley Oct. 10 and Northern Michigan Oct. 17. The Tech and Northern football game is a trophy game competing for the Miner Cup, a rivalry game that has been present since the 1920s. Michigan Tech has won 20 times since the trophy’s inception in 2002, with an ongoing 15-year streak. On Oct. 24, the Huskies will take a road trip down to Big Rapids to face off against the reigning national champion Ferris State Bulldogs. The Huskies have an away game record of 16-16-1 against Ferris State. Tech will then travel to Saginaw to face off against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Oct. 31. The Huskies will be home playing Davenport on Nov. 7 and closing out the regular season against the Wayne State Warriors on Nov. 14.
Last year the MTU Varsity football team had a solid 7-4 season, finishing the season tied for third in the GLIAC, and leading the conference in field goals. Following the 2025 season, Huskies Head Coach Dan Metcaf was named GLIAC Coach of the Year.
