Even though the fall semester is just starting, students already have something to look forward to. K-Day is one of Tech’s most cherished traditions. Scheduled for next Friday, Sep. 11, this annual event offers a unique blend of community engagement, outdoor recreation, and student involvement.
K‑Day, short for Keweenaw Day, serves as one of MTU’s largest student‑engagement events, offering students a chance to explore more than 200 registered student organizations. It’s a celebration of the vibrant student life at Michigan Tech. Held annually on the Friday following Labor Day, classes are dismissed at noon, allowing students to immerse themselves in the festivities. The event has traditionally taken place at Chassell Centennial Park, allowing students to enjoy the fall weather while learning about the RSO around campus.
From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., students can explore over 150 student organizations, each showcasing their unique offerings and opportunities for involvement. The event features live music, including performances by the Huskies Pep Band, free food, and a variety of games and activities.
K-Day sees anywhere from 3,500 to 4,000 students. To ensure accessibility, Michigan Tech provides complimentary shuttle services to and from Chassell Centennial Park. This convenience allows all students to participate in the day’s events without transportation concerns. Information on the shuttles will be provided on the day of.
