This past Friday, Apr. 10, was the annual Spring Fling, which is considered one of the nine major Tech Traditions held at MTU. According to the Student Leadership and Involvement website, Spring Fling is a way for “students [to] end the academic year and welcome warmer weather by engaging in activities.” It also provides an opportunity for students to learn about Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) associated with Michigan Tech that they can become involved in.

This year’s Spring Fling was promoted as the “Mystery Edition,” with multiple RSOs hosting activities with a murder mystery or detective theme. Attendees themselves could solve a fictional murder mystery by picking up a card from MUB Board and asking various RSO tables for clues.RSOs from different interest groups set up booths for the event. Students could play cornhole near the Cornhole Club’s booth. In addition, Concrete Canoe had posters documenting their work throughout the semester and Four Wheelers of Michigan Tech had eight vehicles on display and a tire for people to guess the weight of. The MUB Board also had an inflatable obstacle course near Fisher, as well as an RC car track near Rekhi.

Although the winter weather and snow has taken long to vanish from campus, Spring Fling was accompanied by sunshine and temperatures in the upper 30s. According to Micah Vacco, Senior Coordinator for SLI, only 50 Registered Student Organizations participated this year compared to K-Day, in which 225 RSOs participated this last fall. However, many students took the time to stop at booths as they walked across campus between classes.

To find out more about clubs, search for them on Involvement Link. If looking for an opportunity to explore and meet face-to-face again, K-Day is scheduled for Sep. 11.
