From Nov. 29, 2025, through Jan. 5, 2026, the City of Hancock is hosting a new holiday tradition that will bring Hancock Campground to life at night.
Hancock Campground has been decorated with amazing light displays for visitors to slowly drive through and admire. Thanks to the City of Hancock and local volunteers, the public can drive through the display of holiday lights free of charge.
The initial setup was done by volunteers from “more than 24 local businesses, organizations, groups, clubs, and individuals.” Throughout the month of November, each group adopted a campsite along the loop and spent lots of time decorating and creating a special holiday display at each site. In addition to the campsites along the loop, the City of Hancock provided decorations in the areas without any campsites to make the loop even more festive. This event was possible because of the Visit Keweenaw Destination Fund Grant, the City of Hancock, and the many local partners and volunteers.
The goal of this new event is to bring beauty to the City of Hancock during the holiday season and bring the community closer together. They hope to boost local pride and attract visitors who are from the area and people visiting for the holiday season, showing them what a welcoming and vibrant community the City of Hancock is.
The grand opening took place on Nov. 29, bringing lots of people together to see the start of this new Hancock tradition. The Campground is open to the public from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from now until Jan. 5, 2026, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
