On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Winter Sports Expo took place in the MUB Commons. The Winter Sports Expo is an event where winter clubs at Michigan Tech set up tables, allowing students to learn about their clubs’ activities and meeting times.
The clubs at the event included the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech, the Mont Ripley Ski Patrol Student Organization, the Snowmobile Club, the Ski and Snowboard Club of Michigan Tech, and the Snowboard Race Team.
The Mushing Club at Michigan Tech introduces students and the community to “the sport of mushing while promoting responsibility, dedication, and organization.” For more information about club meetings and events, email mush@mtu.edu.
The Mont Ripley Ski Patrol Student Organization works with the Mont Ripley Ski Patrol to help keep skiers and snowboarders safe on the hill at Mont Ripley. They are a group of safety-trained students who are there to help injured guests. The Student Organization is looking to “promote awareness of the Mont Ripley Ski Patrol to the greater student body and recruit new NSP members.” For more information about meetings and events, email psharsev@mtu.edu.
The Snowmobile Club is a group of students who want to introduce new students to the sport of snowmobiling and give students a chance to go on group rides. The club members have a lot of knowledge about the sport and are happy to teach new students about it. They meet every Wednesday in MEEM 405 at 6 p.m. For more information, email taweakle@mtu.edu.
The Ski and Snowboard Club of Michigan Tech is a group of students who are interested in enhancing “skiing and snowboarding culture at Michigan Tech by encouraging higher training for instructors of all skiing and snowboarding disciplines.” They also help with financial support for ski and snowboarders who want to pursue more instructor training. For more information about meetings and events or to be added to the email list, email sccobb@mtu.edu.
The Snowboard Race Team is a group of students who “represent the university in collegiate snowboard racing throughout the Midwest. Geared toward anyone with an interest in racing, freestyle, or improving their riding skills.” For more information about meetings and events, email cjrector@mtu.edu.
