University Senate meeting

On Oct. 30, 2025, the University Senate met in the Chem Sci building at 12:30 p.m. for its third meeting of the academic year. Although there was no old business to address, several important new items were discussed.

First on the Senate’s agenda was the Dean review for the Graduate School. One representative must be selected from the Senate to participate in this review. Emails will be sent to determine who will represent the Senate.

In addition to appointing a representative for the Dean review, the Senate is also seeking nominees for the Sabbatical Leave Committee and the Committee on Academic Tenure, Promotion, and Reappointment. University Senate President Robert Hutchinson, who has previously served on the latter committee, emphasized its importance, saying, “This is a very important committee.” He encouraged any interested Senate members to consider applying for this key service role.

The Senate also heard two new proposals from the Curricular Policy Committee. The first proposal introduces a graduate certificate in Foundations of Artificial Intelligence. The second proposal would eliminate shelved undergraduate programs. The Senate will review and vote on both proposals at its next meeting.
