HuskyGOLD launches at Michigan Tech

HuskyGOLD, a new leadership program from Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI), officially launched on Oct. 27.

HuskyGOLD promotes community engagement through five pillars: Leadership, Health and Well-being, Civic Engagement, Culture and Community, and Professional Enrichment. It is a self-paced experience that is open to all undergraduate students. There are no GPA or academic requirements. Anyone with at least a full academic semester can join this year; however, since it is self-paced, students are encouraged to join by their junior year so they have time to get the most out of the program and work it into their schedules.

Students who enroll in the program will complete various activities such as attending workshops, participating in events or traditions, and earning service hours to fulfill each pillar. “These are great resources you can learn from and develop your leadership skills and yourself through,” said Cole Pierucki, senior coordinator of SLI. For example, a required item to complete the Professional Enrichment pillar is to attend 5 career development workshops, and an elective item is to participate in Make a Difference Day.

“So many of our students are super involved across campus with multiple Registered Student Organizations and have multiple on-campus leadership roles. It gives students credit and recognition for stuff that they already do while also encouraging folks to try out some programs around campus that they might not have known of before,” Pierucki explained.

Students will receive an award panel after completing each of the five pillars that go together to make a full award desk display. Additionally, if all pillars are fulfilled before graduation, students will receive a HuskyGOLD stole.

Open enrollment for Fall 2025 HuskyGOLD ends on Friday, Nov. 21. For more information regarding important HuskyGOLD dates and events, visit the HuskyGOLD link under the Leadership tab on the Michigan Tech leadership and involvement website or email activities@mtu.edu.
