Are you looking to get rid of unpaid parking tickets? If so, you’re in luck! Student Affairs, the Husky Food Access Network (HuskyFAN), and Transportation Services have teamed up for a food drive called “Can the Citation,” which allows you to pay off your parking tickets with nonperishable donations to the HuskyFAN food pantry.
From Nov. 3 through Nov. 23, 2025, anyone with an unpaid parking ticket can donate non-expired, non-perishable food or personal care items to the Dean of Students Office on the first floor of the Administration Building, where they will remove a citation from your account based on the following tiers: One full brown grocery bag will result in a $25 citation removed from your account, eight 12-oz. cans will result in a $25 citation removed from your account, and four 12-oz. cans will remove a $10 citation from your account. A maximum of three citations are eligible for removal from your account during this donation period.
Even if you do not have an outstanding parking ticket, you are still welcome to participate; HuskyFAN is accepting all donations for this event. Whether you have an unpaid parking ticket or not, everyone who donates will be entered into a raffle to win a free parking pass either for the remainder of this school year (until Aug. 14, 2026) or for a full-year parking pass for next school year (from Aug. 15, 2026 to Aug. 14, 2027) in whichever lot you would prefer – students living on campus could be put in a residential lot, commuter students could be placed in a commuter lot, faculty/staff could be put in a staff lot. The winner will work with Transportation Services to decide what is best for them. The winner will be announced during the week of Nov. 24 to Nov. 28, 2025.
This will be the second time Michigan Tech has hosted the “Can the Citation” food drive. Last school year, the drive was from Feb. 3 through Feb. 23, 2025. After talking with Sean Conners at Transportation Services, he explained that last year they “collected 700 pounds of food, 75 individuals donated without citations, and $2395 in citations were forgiven for 100 individuals.” Tiffany Jaeger, the Manager of Outreach and Retention, said, “It was a great collaboration and was well-received among students. It was a great demonstration of how motivated Huskies are to support each other, so no Husky goes hungry…We hope to continue doing this drive once a semester.”
