Going into the game, Michigan Tech had a record of 2-2-0, with their first two series of the season each resulting in a split, both with the University of Minnesota and University of Alaska Fairbanks, respectively. The opener was played against the Ferris State Bulldogs, who went in with a record of 1-3-0.

The Huskies beat the Bulldogs 5-1, with the Huskies scoring four goals in the second period alone. Goals were scored by forward Teydon Trembecky, forward Brayden Boehm, forward and captain Isaac Gordon, and forward Noah Reinhart. Their goaltender, Hobie Hedquist, made 19 saves on 24 shots.

In a post-game press conference, Head Coach Bill Muckalt said he “liked how we were able to stay with it.” He also commented that the team “played fast and played quick, and we were rewarded for that.” Teydon Trembecky, a freshman forward who currently leads the team in goals, looked forward to the game the following day. When asked what it would take to win the next game, Trembecky stated “can’t complain about a 5-1 win, a lot of the same stuff from tonight. Discipline a little bit in the third…doing the right things and we’ll be fine.” In their post-game conferences, both Trembecky and Bartoskiewicz expressed appreciation for the fans, especially Mitch’s Misfits. Bartoskiewicz said, “for our school and how passionate they are with the Misfits and everything, it’s a joy to play for.”
