Husky Swim Club makes a splash

The Michigan Tech Swim Club is starting off the school year with workouts, meets, and a welcoming community. “We’re a great social club — a really good group of people… Swimming is one of the most efficient forms of cardio out there,” said captain Trevor Dill. “It keeps you in shape and gives you a great sense of community.”

Open to anyone with basic lap swimming experience, the club welcomes all skill levels. “If you roughly know the four strokes and can swim down and back, you’re good,” Dill explained. “We have members who barely know butterfly and others who are more advanced. Everyone’s happy to give pointers and help new swimmers.”

Practices are captain-led and flexible. Three sessions are offered each week — Mondays and Thursdays from 8–9:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7–8:30 p.m. “Every day our captains write up sets… You can choose whichever works for you, tone it down, or tone it up if it’s too easy,” Dill said.

The club also travels to meets and invites members to compete. This October, the team will head to Michigan State to race alongside six other clubs. Some swimmers are even eyeing national competition.
