The IFC plays a significant role in the Michigan Tech community, with 7 percent of the student body involved in fraternities. Even more students are involved in outreach programs and fundraisers led by the IFC. The voting process is underway and IFC presidential elections will be held Tuesday, Sep. 9, with eight candidates running.
Giovanni Bommaritoi, the IFC’s Vice President of Judicial Affairs and Acting President, had information regarding the responsibilities of being President. “It’s the President’s responsibility to attend the national IFC meetings as the representative of all the affiliated fraternities at Tech,” he said. The President must create new policies that all affiliated fraternities follow as well as represent the fraternal student body as a whole. The President also works with the Houghton City Council to help build relationships between the school and the local community. Bommaritoi urges all those in the IFC to vote.
IFC Vice President of Public Relations Aidan Boop’s advice for the upcoming election is to be invested and aware of the upcoming election, as it will have a huge impact on Greek life. He pushes those who are seeking change in the IFC to vote and be involved in the coming election.
The election will be held Sep. 9, at 8 p.m., with the location to be determined. Only IFC members are allowed to attend and vote in the meeting.
