As many Michigan Tech students know, this year’s weather has been unfavorable for broomball. Just last month, MTU’s Inter-Residence Housing Council (IRHC) was forced to cancel the 2024 broomball season. While this is still disappointing to all who play, IRHC has provided an opportunity for those still looking to get their fill of broomball regardless of experience level. On Mar. 23, there will be a free-access broomball pick up game from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Dee Stadium, located in downtown Houghton. You must sign up using the link provided below, which has also been sent to those involved in broomball.
According to an Instagram post from the IRHC account, “Bring your own helmet if you have, but shoes and brooms will be provided by the event organizers.” When signing up for the event, there will also be space to provide information such as shoe size, additional equipment needed such as helmets, as well as contact information. If you just want to spectate, that’s fine too. As stated by the same post, you can also “watch professionals to see some very cool broomball.”
For this event there is an emphasis on modern broomball. In an email sent to broomball players by Ryleigh Parsons, PR Manager for the Broomball Committee, there is a short YouTube video explaining modern broomball. This video can be found at the following link, tinyurl.com/modernbroomball.
