A tribute to warm Yooper culture
To my parents,
While all people have their flaws, my parents are seriously deserving of some recognition. The older I get and the more people I meet from a variety of backgrounds the more grateful I am for the way my parents raised me and my siblings.
You gave us a little more freedom than most parents did, but that made me into the person I am today. I think a lot about the beauty of a mechanically minded man marrying an artistic woman and how that’s affected all of us. You’ve raised a group of talented, independent thinkers and you always made sure to value our opinions, even if they didn’t match your own.
You’ve left your jobs and started a new life, a new gift shop and entered a new world dedicated to realizing your dreams. I can’t begin to express the way that this and every day with you has inspired me to be the best that I can be.
So thank you, for always being there, for being so supportive, for being some of the best parents a person could ask for.
