The UnLODEing Zone

Can I just say that I love the snow? I do! When I saw those beautiful flakes fluttering down this past weekend, I wanted to skip with joy. The brown leaves and broken foliage are covered in white, the ground is shimmering with crystals and the sounds are muffled in the most glorious way.

I know some of you are probably rolling your eyes at me, already an-noyed with winter. I get it, cause I feel that way too sometimes. But for me, the snow means the holidays are coming, and that has always been my favorite time of year.

Which means you’ve probably guessed that I’m also skipping for joy because Thanksgiving is only a week away. I’ve been looking forward to the break for the past couple of weeks, and now it’s so close I can al-most taste it.

There will be food, family and a short little break from all the as-signments. I can find a good book, a warm drink and a soft blanket and just relax without feeling guilty that I’m ignoring my responsibilities.

My family has this Thanksgiv-ing tradition that I’ve always loved. The day before Thanksgiving we all gather in the kitchen and prep food for the next day. There is stuffing to be made, potatoes to be peeled and pies to be baked. And of course, we need to taste-test what we’ve made, so it’s like a mini Thanksgiving feast right there.

Sometimes there are more helping hands than necessary, but we don’t leave. Those of us that aren’t needed still hang out there, playing games and conversing. But the best part? This is the day that we break out the Christmas music and really start celebrating the holidays. It’s festive and homey and cozy and perfect. I wouldn’t trade that day for anything.

Which is yet another reason that I’m so excited about Thanksgiving this year. This will be the first year in a while that I haven’t had to work that Wednesday, and I’m so thrilled that I can’t stop grinning whenever I think about it. I really can’t wait for break!
