Huskies earn NCAA tournament at-large bid

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, earning an at-large bid when the tournament field was announced Sunday night by the national office. This will be the 19th appearance for the Huskies in the NCAA National Tournament.

Michigan Tech is 23-5 overall, won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division title, ranked 24th in the final WBCA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, and will be the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region bracket. The Huskies will face a familiar foe in the first game, matching up with the No. 5 seed Grand Valley State University (25-6) on Friday in Ashland, Ohio. The Lakers also earned an at-large bid to this year’s tournament field. The GLIAC is represented by three teams with top-seed Ashland University hosting the tournament.

This year’s appearance will be the first for the program since Tech hosted the Midwest Regional Tournament in 2014-15. The Huskies advanced all the way to the NCAA Championship game during the 2010-11 campaign and this will be the fourth trip to the national tournament for Tech under Head Coach Kim Cameron.

The other matchups for the Midwest Regional have the number one seed Ashland (31-0) taking on number eight seed Hillsdale (19-10). Second seed Drury (29-2) battles seventh seed Findlay (22-7) and the number three seed Southern Indiana (26-4) faces number six seed Lewis (23-7). The times for each game are still to be determined.
