The last laugh

Get ready to laugh till your sides hurt and your eyes water as Tech welcomes renowned comedian Opey Olagbaju to tickle your funny bone with an entertaining stand-up comedy act on Dec. 2. Opey Olagbaju’s love and commitment to stand-up comedy are always distinctly seen on stage, and students at Tech can taste that as he is the last comedian of this semester.

Opeyemi “Opey” Olagbaju is a Los Angeles comic who performs across the country and has been successfully showcased in several festivals including the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, one of the biggest stand-up comedy festivals in the spring. He has also performed live improv comedy, the SF Sketchfest, the World Series of comedy and previous National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Showcases (2014 West and Central and 2015 Nationals). He is noted for his humor born from sheer observation of day to day mundane events inspired by his personal experiences as an immigrant from Nigeria. He is the embodiment of both societies and their cultural quirks and identities.

Opey has performed for Southern New Hampshire University before and has received multiple excellent reviews. Matt Montimony, a CAPE Weekend Chair, has reviewed Opey’s performance as tremendous in every manner, with the crowd engaged through the entire show. Through his comedy, Opey explores what makes us different, but at the same time, shows us how these differences sum up to make us all the same. His performance is going to be specially held for Tech students and will be held in the Memorial Union Ballroom on Dec. 2 from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This event is being hosted by Late Night Programming and is being funded by the Student Activity Fee. For more information, check out https://events.mtu.edu/event/comedian_opey_olagbaju#.Wh3xbkrtzcs.
