Last week, the Michigan Tech Women’s Volleyball Team split games for their second-to-last weekend of the regular season. On Friday, Oct. 30, the Huskies beat Wayne State with a final score of 3-2. On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Huskies faced off against Grand Valley State University (GVSU); the Huskies lost with a final score of 1-3.
On Friday, the game between MTU and Wayne State was close and competitive. Wayne had an early lead, winning the first set 25-19, the second set 25-18, and the third set 25-16. Building on this momentum, Huskies won the next set 25-17, pushing this game into a final fifth set. The high-stakes last set was very close as both teams gave it their all. In the end, Huskies proved themselves to be the winner with a final score in the fifth set of 18-16.
In a post-game interview, Head Coach Cindy Pindral said, “we had a good locker room talk in between sets two and three and came out with an old reliable type lineup that we’ve been doing for a while.”
Saturday’s game was less close, only lasting four sets. MTU was looking good in the beginning, winning the first set 25-17. Despite this, GVSU was determined to get their heads in the game and managed to win the next three sets with the scores 25-21, 25-15, and 25-16. Although the game did not turn out in the Huskies’ favor, there were definitely some notable players. Sophomore Madlynn Kreider led with 45 assists, and Senior Rachel Zurek landed 14 kills.
MTU’s next women’s volleyball game will be a home game in the Varsity Gym on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 6:00 p.m. against Northern Michigan University. For more information regarding MTU women’s volleyball, please visit michigantechhuskies.com/sports/womens-volleyball/.
