Huskies face off against Lake Superior State and Purdue Northwest at home

The Michigan Tech women’s volleyball team secured back-to-back sweeps in their games against Lake Superior State and Purdue Northwest in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). With these victories, Michigan Tech’s overall record improved to 9-7 and 5-3 in GLIAC play.

On Friday, Oct. 2, the Huskies won against Lake Superior State 25-19, 25-12, and 25-20. With this win, they have swept Lake Superior State five consecutive times since 2024, and an overall win-loss record of 34-4 since Oct. 2006. Senior Jacqueline Yancy led the team in kills with 11, while Senior Amelia Albers led the team in aces with four. Following the game, Head Coach Cindy Pindral said, “It was a great team win for us tonight.”

In Michigan Tech’s game versus Purdue Northwest on Saturday, Oct. 3, they won 25-21, 25-15, and 25-21. Senior Rachel Zurek led the team in kills with 12, followed by freshman Kayla Heinonen with 10 kills and four aces. Sophomore Madelynn Kreider led the team in assists with 30, two more than her game against Lake Superior State. In the third set versus Purdue Northwest, the Huskies fell behind before taking a timeout and winning out the match.

After the match, Pindral said, “We need to win this game, instead of waiting for them to lose this game. We have to fight and we have to earn this win. Nobody in our league is going to give us anything.”

With both of these wins being against teams inside their conference, it provides critical momentum into the mid-season stretch. “This was a super important weekend to go 2-0,” Pindral said, “I’m happy to have achieved that goal with the ability to come out with some three-setters as well.”

The team will now go on the road and will be playing Friday, Oct. 9, against Parkside in Kenosha, WI, and then Saturday, Oct. 10, against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, IN.
