On Tuesday, Sep. 22, the Graduate Student Government met for their biweekly general body meeting. The body moved forward with progress on the Park Center and the Three Minute Thesis competition, and announced an upcoming meeting with the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and Transportation Services.
The meeting started with guest speaker Laura Bulleit, Vice President for Student Affairs, coming to talk about the upcoming Park Center. The groundbreaking ceremony will be Friday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m., with Chang K. Park, the donor and namesake of the building, in attendance to give a speech. Construction will begin mid October, with the school aiming for completion in Fall 2028.
GSG is working in partnership with the USG to hold a town hall with Transportation Services. This is to help address the lack of parking on-campus, especially with the displacement of cars from Lot 11 due to the building of the Park Center. The location and date of this event are still in the works.
GSG announced they have finally finished processing travel grants from summer. In tandem, they also announced a new website for tracking the status of their travel grants. This webpage will allow students to put in their email address and see how far along their travel grant request is.
For upcoming events, there will be an open house for the school’s health insurance on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. in ChemSci 102. The Reverse Career Fair, an event where students can practice for job interviews, has been postponed to Spring 2027 due to resource constraints.
Registration for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is open. The 3MT is an opportunity for master’s and PHD students to show off their research with one slide in three minutes in exchange for cash prizes. The deadline to register is on Oct. 27, with the first rounds starting on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first 15 students to sign-up will get their preferred time slot.
