Husky Thoughts: How did you meet your best friend (at college)?

“Initially, both of us individually decided to go through the roommate search, probably through Facebook, and decided that we had similar interests, hobbies, and personalities (and same major). I met them because we were paired to be roommates with each other in West McNair, and we’ve been friends ever since. I remember my mom being like “oh you gotta do this” and now I’m actually glad I did it. Oh, and we have the same major.”

“The people on the ski team are my best friends. We spend a lot of time training with each other, anywhere between 16 to 17 hours a week. So, a dabble of trauma bonding. We have similar interests, similar goals; I get to travel the country with these guys and we’ve been to Alaska, Utah, New Hampshire – shoutout Theater Wirth Park! They’re super fun and goofy and I really enjoy spending time with them. And we have, like, built in time to hangout with each other at practice, so like, how can you not be close?”

“I guess I met my best friend up here through the fraternity. I joined a frat, Sigma Phi Epsilon (Rush SigEP, Best Frat, Facts). I didn’t really talk to him until like, the end of the last semester, almost towards finals week. I think we came up the week after Thanksgiving break. We kinda saw each other outside of our dorms. I live in McNair and he lives in Hillside, and we met in that open area. We spent the rest of that night together, and then hung out that whole week together, studied for finals, and hit the gym.”

“She dm’d me over the summer on Insta asking me if I needed a roommate, but at that point I already had one. I messaged her back, telling her I had a roommate already, but would still like to be friends. I don’t hear back from her. And when I got put in the group chat for my orientation group I recognized the name, but didn’t connect the dots. It wasn’t until our first orientation meeting that I realized where I knew her from. I didn’t say anything for our first meeting, until afterwards where I complimented her tote bag. She said thank you and immediately followed it with, ‘I think I ghosted you on Instagram.’ We bonded over that and I took her to lunch at Wads. Honestly, afterwards we were inseparable after that. We did everything together, and we still do. She is now my roommate and we run all of our errands together. We joined a sorority together. We’re a packaged deal. I think everyone knows that.”

– Chloe Kemp, second-year Environmental Engineering major

“I guess it was in CS1111. Which if you have taken, is where the lecture is completely useless and the lab is a chaotic nightmare. In that lab there was either you found people to work with or you were done for, you didn’t make it. I had a group of people in the class that I kinda knew and we realized that working together, it was a lot easier. Then we ended up taking every class together. And that’s kinda it. “
