Student-run event welcomes climbers of all skill levels for competition, prizes, and community at the SDC wall

The Ridge Roamers club will host its biannual Keweenaw Climbing Competition (KCC) on Mar. 30  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Student Development Complex (SDC). Registration costs $10 for those who sign up in advance and $15 at the door. Located at the climbing wall within the SDC multipurpose gym, this event will bring together climbers of all ages and experience levels for a day of competition and community.

The KCC is open to all skill levels, with competitors divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions. Men and women will compete in separate categories. Each climber will attempt three routes of bulge, flat, and roof with two attempts allowed per route. Scoring is based on the highest hold reached, weighted by difficulty of the route.

Organized entirely by club members, the event highlights both competitive climbing and student leadership, as participants test their skills on routes designed and set by the Ridge Roamers team. Club members are responsible for setting both toprope and bouldering routes, ensuring a range of challenges for participants.

The competition is supported in part by sponsors who provide prizes for competitors. In addition to awards for top performers, a raffle will be held at the end of the event, giving remaining participants a chance to win additional prizes. For more information, email climb@mtu.edu
