A euchre tournament is being presented by the Euchre Club and Husky Eats in the MUB
The Euchre Club is hosting a tournament in the Keweenaw Commons in the MUB on Wednesday, Mar. 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be complimentary DIY mocktails for all participants and a grand prize for the winning team courtesy of Husky Eats. Unlike the last tournament held by the Euchre Club, the event is free to all students.
Check in will be at 5:45 p.m. with the tournament starting at 6 p.m. Each round will be capped to 25 minutes each. Once one round is over, the leaderboard will be updated and the next round will begin. The games will be in round robin format, meaning every team will be given the opportunity to compete against every team. The team with the most games won will win. This tournament is described to be identical to the previous tournaments held by the Euchre Club. All experience levels are welcome. Any person interested in registering for the tournament can either sign-up by themselves or with a predetermined team.
When asked for any advice for new players, Euchre Club President Claire Schultz said, “I recommend they follow these three rules: One, it’s usually safe to call trump when you have three of that suit in your hand, two, always try to lead with a high off-suit card, such as an Ace, and three try to remember what cards have been played so you can tell when a suit is exhausted.”
The Euchre Club meets two days a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Wads Cherry Room. “If they want more practice, come to Euchre Club! We’ll teach them the rules and play some rounds so they can get a feel for how the game works,” Schultz said.
