Michigan Tech’s Winter Carnival continues to host its traditional annual winter games, offering students the chance to compete in Human Dog Sled Racing, Ice Bowling, Snow Soccer, and more. Throughout the week of winter carnival, this campus celebration emphasizes the fun of Michigan Tech’s winter conditions. The competitions draw large crowds every year and remain a central attraction of Winter Carnival festivities.
Human Dog Sled Racing is a 100 yard dash that replaces dogs with students. In this event, teams of six will pull a homemade sled, carrying four riders and a musher, racing to finish before everyone else. The requirement is that each team makes their own sled with school spirited decor, making the race not just about speed and teamwork but creativity as well.
Similarly, Ice Bowling combines strategy and teamwork with a festive twist. Teams with up to ten people compete as one person rides on a sled down a nine foot wide ice lane acting as the bowling ball. The goal is to knock down as many pins as possible, scored just like regular bowling. This event will be held at the SDC.
Another one of the beloved winter games is Snow Soccer. Teams of five will compete on a snow covered field, playing two ten minute halves. The goals are worth one point each. The difficulty is the players’ balance and cooperation on the snowy ground.
These events highlight what Winter Carnival does best, bringing the Michigan Tech community together to embrace winter. Whether competing or spectating from the sidelines, everyone can look forward to a weekend filled with wonderful winter memories.
