The Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) is hosting a series of open snowshoeing events on Jan. 28, Feb. 18, and Mar. 11 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meeting location is at the OAP Rental Center located in the Tech trailhead. These events are free for MTU students; snowshoe rentals are also available and complimentary.

When asked for an overview of the events, OAP Senior Staff member Rachel Kinnamon said, “We’ll have a staff member there [at a trailhead] and then each time we’re going to tour a different trail.”

When asked for participation incentives, Kinnamon responded, “Me personally, I think snowshoeing is really fun, and so a way to do it for, like, free, just take it.” Kinnamon also explained how this event will “help create interest for other snowshoeing events…”

Coming up is the BigFoot Glowshoe, a snowshoeing event happening Feb. 5, where you can snowshoe at night on a lit up path the OAP creates on the Tech trails. The Snowshow Hike on Mar. 21 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., will allow people to go snowshoeing and visit the lighthouses around Copper Harbor and the Keweenaw.

Outside of these events, snowshoe rentals are available at the OAP Rental Center for the cost of $25 for a season pass or $10 for a single day rental.

For more information on these events, email the OAP at oap@mtu.edu, follow them on instagram @mtu_adventure, or visit the OAP Rental Center during its operating hours, which can be found on michigantechrecreation.com.
