Michigan Tech’s women’s basketball team lost to Northern Michigan’s Wildcats on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m., with a final score of 74–46. The conference matchup highlighted Northern Michigan’s strong performance this 2025-2026 season, and added another chapter to the ongoing rivalry between the two schools. The men’s team followed the women’s game as part of a doubleheader.

This brings the record since 2006 between teams to 35 wins for MTU and nine wins for NMU. While Michigan Tech has historically dominated the series, Northern Michigan has emerged as a strong competitor during the current season.

The current records for the 2025-2026 season are 9–5 for the Huskies and 13–2 for the Wildcats. Northern Michigan was able to establish control early in the game, limiting Michigan Tech’s offensive opportunities.

Michigan Tech continued to compete throughout the game but struggled to close the scoring gap. “We’re going to have to learn from it, move on,” said Head Coach Sam Clayton after the game. Clayton emphasized the importance of growth and adjustment following the team’s return from break and in general as the season progresses.

The next game the Michigan Tech Huskies play is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15. The team will look to regroup and apply lessons from this game moving forward. For more information, check out their page on michigantechhuskies.com.
