Safety and accessibility at Mont Ripley

Mont Ripley is open for the winter season and now is the best time to get out on the slopes! Students who pay the Experience Tech Fee are entitled to a lift pass for this season and can take advantage of the fresh snow.

For new skiers, Mont Ripley offers 90-minute skiing and snowboarding lessons through their program. These lessons can be purchased as public or semi-private, where certified ski and snowboard instructors tailor their instruction  to your skill level, from starting out with the basics to advanced techniques. For students without their own transportation, multiple shuttles run from campus to the hill and back, providing access to those without cars. Ski and snowboard gear is also available for rent for those who lack equipment, including a choice of skis or a snowboard, boots, helmets, and poles for skiers. These rentals can be purchased in person or online for single-day or full-season use.

As more new and returning skiers get onto the slopes, all should remember to follow the rules of the hill to keep everyone happy and safe. “We’re all here to have fun, some of us are learning new things and may not know where to go just yet, so we all need to make sure we stay aware of our surroundings, read signs on the hill, and give others space on the hill,” said Esa Leppanen, skier services manager and snowsports director at Mont Ripley. The Skier Responsibility Code can be seen online as well as on the chalet and ski lifts.

To stay warm and safe, those new and interested in skiing should make sure they have the proper winter clothing for skiing. To keep yourself warm from the elements, Leppanen recommends skiers “wear appropriate winter weather apparel for the temperatures,” and that “Warm gloves are always helpful.” Staying safe at Mont Ripley means wearing the proper gear. “A helmet is highly suggested,” Esa stated.

This season is the perfect time to try out skiing through the multiple runs, lifts, and benefits offered at Mont Ripley. Esa shares, “Trying skiing or snowboarding can lead to a new lifetime activity and can be very rewarding.”
