This weekend was a big one for Huskies athletics, with soccer, volleyball, and football games all taking place through Friday and Saturday.
The women’s soccer team hosted Purdue Northwest at Kearly Stadium as an end to their regular season. After fighting a tough battle, the Huskies lost the game 0 to 2.
The women’s volleyball team played Davenport University on Friday and Ferris State University on Saturday. Both games were held in the Wood Gym. They defeated Davenport 3 to 2, with final set scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, and 15-11. The next day, they fought hard but lost a close battle against Ferris 3 to 1, with final set scores of 24-26, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-17.
The football team was defeated by Grand Valley State University. It was yet another close game, with a final score of 15-18. This game was anticipated to be an intense match-up. In a pregame interview, assistant coach Nathan Vereeke said, “GVSU has some talented skill on the outside. We’ve matched up well all year to talented wide receivers and defensive backs, and we anticipate our guys making some plays on the football.” When asked about adjustments made based on previous games against GVSU, Vereeke said, “Previous matchups against an opponent are always important to learn off of, and we plan to incorporate that into our game plan going into this week. Playing a team like this every year, you get to know each other well, and it is a constant battle to show new looks the other has not seen.”
