University Senate Meeting 724

On Nov. 6, the Michigan Tech University Senate held meeting 724 in Chem Sci room 102. First, they approved the agenda and the meeting minutes from meeting 723. Next, they covered unfinished business. 

The first proposal brought up was Proposal 31-25. This was a proposed “Graduate Certificate in Foundations of Artificial Intelligence,” presented by the Curricular Policy Committee. This certificate would consist of three courses, totaling nine credits, that teach the foundations of artificial intelligence. The end goal would be to eventually have enough certificates in this field to create a master’s program. After voting, this proposal passed. 

The next unfinished business proposal was Proposal 01-26. This was a “Proposal to Eliminate Shelved Undergraduate Programs” presented by the Curricular Policy Committee. This proposal would eliminate certain shelved undergraduate programs that haven’t had students for over five years. This proposal also passed.

After that, they went on to new business, with the first new proposal being Proposal 03-26. This was a “Proposal for a Graduate Certificate in Internal Combustion Engine Systems.” The next new proposal was Proposal 30-25, which was a “Proposal for a Graduate Certificate in Robust Embedded Software” presented by the Curricular Policy Committee. This certificate would consist of three courses, totaling nine credits, that will provide hands-on experience in embedded software. The last new proposal was Proposal 02-26, a “Proposal to Eliminate Shelved Graduate Programs” presented by the Curricular Policy Committee. This proposal would be similar to the undergraduate proposal voted on earlier in this meeting. It would eliminate certain shelved graduate programs that haven’t had students for over five years. They will come back to these proposals in the next meeting for discussion and voting.
