AEMT hosts Trunk-or-Treat Car Meet

The Automotive Enthusiasts at Michigan Tech (AEMT) threw a Trunk-or-Treat Car Meet last Friday, Halloween night. Members and students came together to show off their project cars and learn about the local car scene while also running a traditional trunk-or-treat-style Halloween. The event featured spooky costumes from attendees, candy at each vehicle, and a lineup of unique cars.

The event is part of a monthly schedule of AEMT-organized car meets. Each event is open to any and all auto-enthusiasts. The Trunk-or-Treat Car Meet is relatively new at Michigan Tech and growing each year. “As far as I know, I think it’s the second time [running the Trunk-or-Treat Car Meet]. It happened last year for sure, and I’m not sure about the year before. So it’s the sort of thing that we would do anyways,” said AEMT President Nicholas Joerin. AEMT hosts events beyond Halloween car meets. Earlier in October, they hosted an Autocross event for the first time since around 2009, a big pull for new members. The club also does visits to dealerships and other automotive-related outings to keep active in their mission.

AEMT is an inclusive organization seeking to grow its membership. There are no dues, and the club uses its funds to provide members with access to a variety of high-quality tools so they can get their projects rolling. The Trunk-or-Treat Car Meet and other events put on by AEMT are open to anyone, regardless of the type of vehicle they own or the automotive skills they possess. “It’s not like you have to have a car to be in it. Fast car, slow car, low car, no car. Doesn’t matter what you’ve got. Everyone’s welcome here.” Joerin said. This past event was a showcase of that variety of interest. Joerin said. “You’ll see there’s a lot of people here with a wide variety of cars from Mazda Miatas to Ford Expeditions. It’s not like there’s just a very small subsection of cars.”
