SoundGirls: Scary-Oke Karaoke!

Michigan Tech’s SoundGirls were in the Halloween spirit in the Walker Building on Thursday, Oct. 30, during their “Scary-Oke Karaoke” event.

Students took the mic to sing their favorite songs in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. SoundGirls did not require people to wear costumes at the event, but many still dressed up, making the night even more fun and festive. The event gave students a break from mid-semester stress and a chance for participants to connect through music and fun.

“I absolutely love every time we do karaoke. It’s always such a blast,” said Aubree Griese, SoundGirls’ secretary.

SoundGirls dedicates itself to empowering women and underrepresented groups in audio and music production. The Michigan Tech chapter hosts hands-on workshops, live productions, and events like Scary-Oke that celebrate both audio and community.

“SoundGirls is an organization that specifically promotes minorities in the audio industry and is just a good place for us to have a community,” Griese explained. “Anyone’s invited to a SoundGirls event—as long as you’re inclusive and willing to have fun, you’re welcome.”

Students interested in joining SoundGirls or learning more about audio production can find the group on Involvement Link or stop by at one of their meetings at 6 p.m., Wednesdays in the Walker Building, room 210.
