The article ‘USG votes on budget allocations and campus updates,’ published on Oct. 28, 2025, has been retracted due to multiple factual errors and an inaccurate account of events at the Oct. 22 USG meeting.
The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) met on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the MUB Alumni Lounge to discuss funding requests, campus updates, and future projects aimed at improving student life.
USG Treasurer David Reeves started off the meeting by giving a quick overview of the Student Activity Fee (SAF), which helps fund Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) across campus. Reeves explained that undergraduates pay $80 each semester while graduate students pay $50. Reeves guaranteed “every dollar collected goes directly back to students through funding and programming.” He also mentioned that over 240 RSOs benefit from the fee each year.
The Ways and Means Committee (WAM) presented a few funding requests during the meeting. The Sailing Club was approved for $1,250 to replace old safety gear and sails, while the Women’s Rugby Club received $640 to cover travel costs for an upcoming regional tournament. Both motions passed with votes of 29-0-1.
The Film Board also came forward with a request for $2,100 to purchase a new projector lens and maintenance supplies. After some discussion about long-term use and cost, the request was adjusted to $1,800, which passed 30-0-1.
Committee updates followed, including one from the Student Affairs Committee, which mentioned that Dining Services is reviewing student feedback about meal plan flexibility. The Judicial Committee also announced that it is working on simplifying the RSO election and officer transition process as part of the upcoming constitution revisions.
Representatives from the Graduate Student Government (GSG) gave a short presentation about possible collaborations between undergraduate and graduate groups, highlighting the upcoming Research Symposium in November.
The meeting wrapped up with a talk about a mentorship program for first-year students and an upcoming RSO workshop later this semester.
USG meetings are open to all students and take place every Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the MUB Alumni Lounge. More information about funding and meeting minutes can be found at usg.mtu.edu.
