Deer season opener

Lots of people love hunting in the Upper Peninsula, and many people travel up here to enjoy the sport. With deer in session, here’s some general information that will be helpful.

Bow season is open in the state of Michigan from Oct. 1 through Nov. 14, 2025, and reopens between Dec. 1, 2025, and Jan.1, 2026. Rifle season is open from Nov. 15 until Nov 30. Muzzleloader season is open from Dec. 5 to Dec. 14, and antlerless deer hunting is open from Dec. 15 to Jan. 1, 2026.

Students living on campus preparing for hunting season may have trouble finding a safe place to store their rifles, bows, and muzzleloaders. Addressing this concern, Reid DeVoge, Deputy Director of Public Safety, said that the “weapons storage room has officially relocated to the Meese Center [1304 E Houghton Ave] and is now open for students to register and store their handguns, rifles, shotguns, bows, airsoft/paintball gear, and knives.”

All students who wish to participate in deer season this fall are able to, provided they do so safely and lawfully.
