Volleyball

This past Friday, Michigan Tech Women’s Volleyball won their first home matchup against Roosevelt’s volleyball team. After suffering a tough loss last week against Davenport’s team, the Huskies rebounded with a strong performance, showing plenty of resilience as they defeated their opponents.

Cindy Pindral, volleyball coach, was interviewed after the game and said, “We stayed poised and we stayed resilient,” emphasizing the team’s eagerness to win the game. “It’s a little bit of a monkey off our back”. With this, Tech will hopefully be able to carry that momentum forward into the rest of their season.

Pindral pointed out that her players have been improving a lot lately. She’s proud of how they are performing, stating, “[Madelyn Torola] shows up every day working hard…and I trust her with the ball. [Paige Wagner] and [Tricia Kennedy] have been really diligent with their eye work and trusting their hand positioning. [Tess Hayes] and [Madelynn Kreider] support each other so well. It’s a luxury to have a 6 rotation outside in [Jacqueline Yancy]”

The team was glad to have the Pep Band alongside them. The whole team joined in on the celebrations and excitement that the band brings. After the game, Rachel Zurek said, “Every time the Pep Band comes out for the first time, it’s always so huge because they’re all new, and they just bring the best energy in the gym ever.”

The first half started off well for Michigan Tech, with the first goal of the game being scored roughly 17 minutes in by MTU’s own Bella Vasoli with an assist from Olivia Gette. However, Davenport quickly closed the gap with two more goals before the half was through. The Huskies kept a tight second half, only letting one shot in, with goalkeeper Ludesha Reynolds accruing five more saves despite a brutal sack hit by one of Davenport’s players, which gained them their second yellow card of the game.

This is MTU’s fifth home loss of the season, but coming off of a dominating game last week at Roosevelt, their tempo is still on the up and up.  In a post-game interview with Head Coach Melissa Kuhar, she clarified, “We came out strong and scored, and then we just kind of got away from our game plan. I mean, their second goal was an insane goal, and they just got two other scrappy ones as
