Rain or shine, Huskies flock to K-Day

Keweenaw Day 2025 was a successful 74th iteration of the annual tradition. While uncooperative weather forced the event indoors, Huskies still trekked up to the SDC en masse. With over 200 student organizations in attendance, the event creates an ideal setting for Huskies to connect with clubs and find ways to keep busy during the school year.

Exposing new students to MTU’s many organizations can be tricky. Involvement Link and Discord, two popular ways to get connected, may not give the full picture of an org’s makeup or energy. At K-Day, Greek life, sports, academic groups, and cultural organizations all come together in one place.

Among the variety of student groups represented in the tables at K-Day are MTU’s many Greek organizations. Mu Beta Psi, one of such organizations, finds K-Day to be a particularly crucial component of their recruitment process. Of the 11 currently active members, seven of them were present at this year’s event, recruiting from the fresh class of Huskies. K-Day provides MBP the opportunity to meet dozens of students who would otherwise be unaware of their existence.

Clubs at Michigan Tech also consider K-Day to be one of, if not the most important, recruitment events of the year. Craft Club saw its largest-ever meeting after K-Day on Sep. 9. Samantha Neveau, a leader with the group, was pleasantly surprised at the turnout: “Sometimes it’s literally just the four E-board members; this time it was 40.” While it is unlikely that all 40 attendees stick with the student group, some may come to find it as their favorite part about Tech.
