For many students at Michigan Tech, a great way to expand their knowledge of areas of interest outside of their major is to choose a minor (a secondary area of study). Michigan Tech offers many different minor pathways that focus on a wide variety of subjects and topics, from language, to arts to ecology, there is typically a minor offered at Tech that will peak your interest. It is recommended that students declare a minor by the end of the spring semester, or better yet, the fall semester of their first year in order to ensure that students have ample time to take the necessary classes. Many students at Tech choose a minor that is adjacently related to their major. For example, a student majoring in environmental engineering might be interested in declaring an ecology minor so that the information learned from the classes that go towards their minor will also help them with their major. For a complete list of minors offered at Michigan Tech, please visit https://www.mtu.edu/catalog/degrees/minors/ online or talk to the Department head of the minor that piques your interest.
