During the fall and spring semesters, MTU Transportation Services offers a free shuttle service that goes around campus, through Houghton, and Hancock. There are three main shuttle routes: Husky Campus Shuttle, City Commuter Shuttle, and the Hancock Commuter Shuttle. Transportation Services uses an app called TripShot to help provide users with easy navigation through its routes. The shuttle services are very convenient for students, faculty, and staff that should be utilized more often.
The Husky Campus Shuttle has a route to bring students to the SDC. Located near the SDC is the Upper Great Lakes Family Health and the Apothecary Houghton. The Upper Great Lakes Family Health is an after-hours clinic and/or same day appointment. The Apothecary Houghton is a pharmacy where anyone can get their medication from. The pharmacy also has a walk-in clinic, 24-Hour emergency service, and a delivery service. Both of these locations are important to utilize if you are sick, injured, or need medicine.
The HuskyFAN Pantry is another free service that MTU provides. The HuskyFAN pantry is located on the first floor of Fisher Hall, behind the glass wall, which is across from Fisher 135. The pantry is open based on volunteer availability. Max Dvorak, who is a consistent volunteer for the pantry, states that “The food pantry does not discriminate. Anyone can get food. There is a card tap but it stays anonymous, and it is optional to tap. Not only do they have perishable items, but they also have Wads’ extra meals.” Dvorak would rather people eat the extra Wads’ meals because if not it just goes to waste. For students that need immediate food outside of the pantry hours, emergency meal packs are available. The emergency meal packs are picked up from Public Safety and Police Services. Each meal includes three servings of fruits, snacks, and protein.
