Are you looking for a job as a wildlife biologist, a wildland firefighter, or an arborist? Well, you’re in luck, as the Natural Resources Career Fair will be held this Thursday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Forestry Building atrium.
The Natural Resources Career Fair will have representatives from over 25 employers, including Davey Tree Expert Company, the Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the US Forest Service, and Bartlett Tree Experts. For those who are interested in learning more about the employers present, there will also be Employer Presentations and a Student Mixer on Wednesday Nov. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in room G002 of the Forestry Building.
One important note for those job-seeking with the US Forest Service is that due to a hiring freeze, they are not hiring seasonal positions other than for wildland fire.
This career fair is similar to the school-wide career fair that happened earlier this year, though it is more focused on students in CFRES. That being said, all students are welcome to attend this event and talk to employers about job opportunities. Many of the job openings are seasonal and are great for first or second year students who want to get outdoors over the summer and try out jobs they wouldn’t have thought about.
For students in CFRES who already have a job lined up, it’s still a good idea to go to the career fair to get your name out there. As Tristan Walk, a third-year in Forestry, says, “Most of the jobs you get are gonna be from people whose hands you’ve shaken.”
The event will be in room 144 in the Forestry Building from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 6.If you’re still making some final touches on your resume and want some tips, the Women in Natural Resources Club is putting on a presentation with Career Services on Career Fair prep, what to put on a resume, and strategies for job searching.
