Hello, my name is Ford Schoonover. I am a writer and editor for The Lode. I started this semester as a member of the student organization. I wanted to join The Lode before I came to Tech– I enjoy writing and I enjoy staying informed. I am a freshman mechatronics major, a USG representative for The College of Engineering, and the chair for public relations on USG. My goal through The Lode is to create a more informed campus because I’ve always found that communication is essential to creating a cohesive community.
I am an Alaska Native, but I grew up in the Metro-Detroit area, where I coached and supervised at a swim school. I have always enjoyed staying active. Swimming was my sport in high school, and since coming to Tech, I have enjoyed rock climbing quite a bit. As much as I enjoy writing I also enjoy reading and music. I love attending live music venues, I play the viola, and when I can, I listen to music.
I am excited to continue to be a part of The Lode, as it has already given me many opportunities to interact with some of the most interesting and influential people on campus. It also allows me to stay connected with my family back home. They enjoy seeing my name on the paper and I enjoy being able to positively impact my community even from 500 miles away.
