Former President Donald Trump

Donald J. Trump is the Republican nominee for the 2024 Presidential Election. Trump was president from 2016 to 2020 and ran for president in 2021. For this election, his vice presidential running mate is J.D. Vance.

Abortion: Trump believes that the issue of abortion should not be in the hands of the Federal Government, but instead left up to the states to decide. He has called himself the most “pro-life president” in history, however, he still supports exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and when the pregnancy is life-threatening.

Border security: President Trump has promised the largest deportation of undocumented migrants in US history if he is elected. He has also stated that he would seal off the southern border by completing the wall construction and increasing enforcement. According to the Washington Post, Trump also intends to end the U.S. refugee program and ban travel from certain countries, a policy from his last term.

Climate change: Trump has stated that he believes humans are only one cause of climate change and doesn’t believe that climate change is causing severe weather events to get worse. He is also against clean energy tax credits and would end the electric vehicle subsidies program.

Crime and guns: Trump has claimed he will put an end to drug cartels and gang violence along with rebuilding major U.S. cities that are overrun with crime. The former president has also softened his approach to marijuana and supported a referendum to legalize marijuana use for adults in Florida. Trump is a big supporter of the Second Amendment and generally does not support gun control legislation such as ‘red flag laws’ and ‘boyfriend loopholes’.

Economy: Trump has proposed several tax cuts worth trillions along with the extension of his 2017 tax cuts. He plans on paying for the tax cuts with a 10 percent tariff on all imports and a 60 percent tariff on all Chinese imported goods, a strategy which he says will bring back American jobs. Trump also wants to cut the corporate tax rate by 15 percent for all companies that produce their goods within the United States.

Healthcare: Trump, who has long stated he will get rid of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has now said in his recent debate that he has “concepts of a plan” to improve the ACA. He also supports the government’s ability to regulate the cost of prescription drugs to lower the cost for the American people.

Foreign policy: In a statement from Trump through the Save America PAC, he criticized sending another 40 billion dollars to Ukraine while America’s parents are still struggling to feed their children. He still supports using economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts and has said that he would have the war in Ukraine ended within 24 hours if elected. He also has expressed his support for Israel during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
