On Oct. 23, USG held their weekly meeting. They discussed a mental health training program, the early voting event, and electing a treasurer and parliamentarian.
Josh Carlson started by presenting a program called Peer Awareness for Well-being and Support, also known as PAWS. PAWS is a program designed to help students recognize when a peer is showing signs of a mental health crisis and give the best support possible. The core elements of the program are peer connection, awareness and knowledge, well-being perspectives, and support skills. The program has one-hour sessions weekly for 6 weeks with 10-15 participants. Participants need to be nominated; the nomination form can be found on the MTU PAWS website. For more information about PAWS, visit their website: www.mtu.edu/well-being/get-involved/paws/.
Huskies Vote Early day is on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a tabling event with a prize wheel at Lot 14, near the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
