Get ready to vote in the 2024 Presidential Election

Learn more about the candidates on the ballot

A significant fraction of the undergraduate population at Michigan Tech will have their first opportunity to vote in a presidential election this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 5. If you are a United States citizen enrolled at Tech, you are most likely eligible to vote.

Tech students who have not secured absentee ballots and/or are not registered to vote can visit the Houghton Clerk Office on the 2nd floor of the courthouse at 401 E. Houghton Ave. or 616 Shelden Avenue to register to vote or simply update their voting address. Both offices are open on weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For in-state students, registering to vote at a new address will automatically change your Michigan ID address to match, and you will be sent a sticker to place over the address on your ID. The state of Michigan allows both in and out of state students to vote under their university address, but out of state students considering this option must be cognizant of any policies in their resident state that may restrict them from voting in this way. Contacting the Houghton County Clerk is the best way to receive more information.

The Michigan Voter Information Center website at mvic.sos.state.mi.us or the League of Women’s Voters Education Fund website at www.vote411.com have useful information for Michigan voters. If you are not a Michigan resident, the Vote411 site will also have helpful links to guide to information on a state-by-state basis.
