Parade of Nations

The Parade of Nations, an international celebration that marches through the Michigan Tech campus and the downtown Houghton area, took place last Saturday. Music accompanied the parade as students, families, and faculty watched over 50 countries celebrate in unison.

The parade started at the Rozsa Center at 11 a.m., with the Huskies Pep Band playing while the first countries began marching. Candy and bracelets were given out as well as other trinkets from many of the different cultures showcased. Many countries wore traditional dress or built floats with music playing throughout.

The parade marched through Houghton after leaving Michigan Tech’s campus, moving through College Ave. and downtown, before looping back to end at Dee Stadium. Hundreds of people lined the downtown streets, watching and following the parade. Dee Stadium, the endpoint for the parade, hosted food booths open to the public. Participating student organizations served meals for $10 to $15 to end the festivities, a great close to the 35th Parade Of Nations.
