Keweenaw Co+Op hiring for new location

The Keweenaw Co+op Market and Deli is set to open its new location on Oct. 16. The new store, located at 612 Quincy St., will offer increased accessibility, more parking spots, and roughly double the space of the previous location. This expanded space will feature a larger meat and produce department, a community eating space, and a wider selection of products.

To staff the new location, the co-op is hosting multiple job fairs for prospective applicants. Two job fairs will be hosted at the Portage Lake District Library in downtown Houghton. The first will occur on Sep. 18 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the second on Sep. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Additionally, two job fairs will be held at Michigan Works in downtown Hancock, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sep. 19 and Sep. 23.

“We suggest that people come prepared with a resume and an idea of where they would like to work in the store,” wrote Denise Hansen, a Retail Manager for the co-op. There are a variety of full and part-time positions available, including bakers, meat and produce clerks, cashiers, stockers, cooks, deli staff, and maintenance specialists.

Hansen also emphasized that specific qualifications are not required. Instead, she wrote, “If you can demonstrate that you have a willingness to be part of a team that likes to excel and be great at what they do, demonstrate dependability in performance and attendance, and share a value system with the Co+op that supports providing the community with a positive experience then this may be the place for you!”

For those unable to attend the job fairs but still interested in working for the co-op, applications are available through the Careers link on the Keweenaw Co+op website. For the grand opening of the new location, the store will be celebrating by hosting “super sales” on a variety of products. Additionally, every Sunday, customers with a valid student ID can receive a 5 percent discount on their purchases.
